Orozco Earns Spot On College Baseball Hall Of Fame Nat'l All-Star Lineup

Lubbock, TX—The College Baseball Hall of Fame and Diamond Sports named UC Riverside senior right-hander Eddie Orozco to their weekly National All-Star Lineup last week for games played from March 5-11.
This honor comes on the heals of Orozco being named Big West Conference PItcher of the Week, College Baseball Insider West Region Pitcher of the Week and Louisville Slugger's National Player of the Week
Orozco took a perfect game into the seventh inning Saturday, March 10 against Sacramento State, eventually settling for a record-setting three-hit, 15 strikeout performance in a 1-0 shutout.
The drama of the night almost never materialized, however, as Hornets lead-off hitter Kyle Moses lifted a fly ball to left center field that threatened to drop in the gap, but Devyn Bolasky came up with a sliding catch for the first out of the game.
Orozco then struck out Justin Higley for his first punch out of the night, and got Rhys Hoskins to fly out to right. Orozco picked up another strikeout to start the next inning and got a pair of groundouts for his second perfect inning of work.
The Riverside, CA native remained perfect in the third striking out the side, and he struck out two more Hornets in the fourth and two in the sixth, before Kyle Moses singled to right center to open the seventh inning spoiling UCR's bid for a perfect game. Orozco didn't allow the hit to get to him, however, as he struck out Higley and Hoskins before picking Moses off first base to end the seventh.
Sacramento State picked up its second hit of the night in the top of the eighth as Derrick Chung beat out a slow roller to short, but Orozco retired the next two hitters without incident.
The crowd was on its feet in the top of the ninth, and Orozco didn't disappoint raring back and striking out the first two hitters to give him 14 on the night. Moses singled to right to add some drama to the moment, but Orozco struck out Higley for his 15th strikeout of the game (Listen to the call).
That tied him with current assistant coach Chris Smith (May 25, 2002 vs. UC Irvine), and James Simmons (February 16, 2007 vs. San Francisco) atop UC Riverside's leader board for the most strikeouts in a single game during the team's Division I era.
Orozco now has 29 strikeouts in 27.1 innings on the season, and over his last three starts, he is 3-0 with a 0.78 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 23.1 innings of work. He has allowed just 13 hits and five walks during that stretch while lowering his earned run average on the season from 6.23 to 1.65.
