High Scores Drop Highlanders Men's Golf To Ninth At Big West Championship

La Quinta, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Golf Team suffered from high scores on Monday morning in the second round of 2012 Big West Conference Championship, dropping back to ninth place with a 603 total score.
The Highlanders carded a 309 on Monday posting just two scores in the 70's, led by Ryan Smith's two-over-par 74. UCR's 603 two-day total is four shots behind eighth-place Cal Poly, and six back of Cal State Northridge.
UC Davis shot eight-under on the day to take the lead in the championship, finishing with a 570 total, one stroke ahead of Pacific. UC Santa Barbara is in third place at 573 followed by Long Beach State (577), UC Irvine (579), and Cal State Fullerton (582).
Individually for the Highlanders, Smith (76-74) is tied with teammate Jason Semthiti (70-80) in 29th place with identical two-round scores of 150.
BJ Doucett is one stroke back at 151 (71-80) to tie for 36th, while Matt Fitzgerald is in 38th with a 153 (78-75).
David Gazzolo rounds out the squad in 43rd place with a 159 (77-82).
Pacific's Alex Edfort leads the players field with an eight-under-par 136 score.
The 2012 Big West Championship concludes on Tuesday with a final 18-hole round beginning with tee times at 7:15 am.
