UC Riverside Men's Basketball Hands Out End-Of-Year Hardware

Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team handed out its end-of-the-year hardware this week, celebrating its season with the presentation of the Lunch Pail Award, the Highlander Award and the Mark Hall Spirit Award.
The Lunch Pail Award is presented to the individual who impacts winning by making the hustle plays that make the difference in every game. Points are earned by taking a charge, attempting to take a charge, diving on the floor for loose balls, grabbing 10 or more rebounds in a game and making the extra effort on plays.
The 2011-12 recipient of the Lunch Pail Award is senior guard Kareem Nitoto.
The Highlander Award is presented to the individual who displays consistent effort and the ability to sustain and achieve. Areas of emphasis are directly related to the necessary ingredients of a successful team.
Points may be earned through team victories; receiving As and Bs academically; and in-game events, including grabbing offensive rebounds, handing out assists, attempting free throws. and acheiveing defensive field goal percentage and points allowed goals in a game.
The 2011-12 recipient of the Highlander Award is senior guard Kareem Nitoto.
The Mark Hall Spirit award is presented in memory of former men's basketball player Mark Hall who, during his short stay at UCR, showed the energy and enthusiasm that it takes to be a successful student-athlete and teammate. It is in his mold that this award is given to the men’s basketball player that shows a desire to impact the program and university in a positive manner.
Student-athletes are judged on academic achievement, character, leadership, attitude, work ethic, and consistency.
The 2011-12 recipient of the Mark Hall Spirit Award is freshman guard Austin Quick.
