
Baseball Drops Game One Of Three-Game Series At Portland, 4-2

Portland, OR—Portland starter Travis Radke allowed just four hits through seven innings, and reliever Colin Feldtman threw two innings of no-hit ball as the Pilots picked up a 4-2 victory over UC Riverside in game one of a three-game series Friday afternoon. (Box Score).
Game two, originally scheduled for Saturday at 1 pm, will now take place at 10 am as the team's try to avoid some inclement weather headed towards the Portland area.
Affter scoring 44 runs in a four-game series at New Mexico, the Highlanders struggled offensively against the Pilots picking up just four hits on the day. One of their best scoring opportunities came in the top of the first when UC Riverside put runners on first and second with nobody out. Clayton Prestridge then hit a grounder to third that Portland was able to turn into a triple play ending the threat.
From then on, it was the Travis Radke show as the sophomore left-hander struck out 14 hitters over the next six innings. The last time an opposing pitcher was credited with 14 strikeouts agianst the Highlanders was on March 28, 2008 when Adam Jorgenson struck out 14 UC Riverside batters in 6.2 innings of relief work during a 15-inning, 7-6 Cal State Fullerton win.
Dylan Stuart (2-2) tried to match Radke, allowing just six hits through his first five innings of work, but three of those hits came in the first and three in the third as the Pilots scored single runs in each of those frames.
UC Riverside finally got to Radke with two outs in the top of the fifth as Bart Steponovich doubled to left, and Cody Hough homered over the left field wall to tie the game at two.
Right fielder Colin Sowers broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth with a two-out solo shot to left, and a bases-loaded fielder's choice in the bottom of the seventh put the Pilots up 4-2. Colin Feldtman took over for Radke in the top of the eighth, and allowed just one base runner over the final two innings.
