San Luis Obispo—The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team built a 17-point lead early in the second half, but a furious Cal Poly comeback helped the Mustangs to a 68-62 win over the Highlanders (Box Score).
UCR (6-24, 3-14) led by 14 at the half, and by 17 with 15:11 remaining in the game, but Cal Poly turned up the defensive pressure and found their offensive stroke en route to a 22-4 run midway through the period. UC Riverside scored six of the next seven points to led by four, 58-54 with 7:15 on the clock, but Cal Poly (16-12, 11-6) closed the game on a 14-4 run to seal the victory.
The Highlanders made just four of their final 19 shots from the floor to finish out the second half, while the Mustangs were connecting on 57.7 percent of theirs including seven of 10 from three-point range.
Eversley led all scorers with 19 points. He was joined in double digits by Reese Morgan, who scored 16 points, all of which came in the second half, and Brian Bennett, who added 10. Chris O'Brien was a perfect four for four from the field off the bench for eight points as the Mustangs reserves outscored the Highlanders' 27-8 on the night.
Chris Patton's 18 paced the Highlanders, but only four of those came in the final 20 minutes of play. Taylor Johns added a career-high tying 14, and Chris Harriel chipped in with 10.
