11/1/2014 6:39:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
Riverside, CA—The UC Riverside Volleyball Team dropped a 3-0 contest to UC Santa Barbara on Saturday evening by the scores of 25-13, 25-22, and 25-19.
The Gauchos out hit the Highlanders .333 to .030 in the first set en route to a 25-13 victory. But the second set was an entirely different animal, with UCR leading midway through, at 13-8. The Gauchos eventually tied the set at 15, though, and down the stretch, turned a 21-20 deficit into a 25-22 win to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set was another close one as neither team led by more than three points until midway through. UC Riverside led 14-13 at that point, but saw the Gauchos score six straight to take a 19-14 advantage. A double block from Alex Gresham and Megan Reza stopped the run, but the teams traded points to close it out as UC Santa Barbara earned the 25-19 sweep.
Bri Holmes led UCR with a match-high 12 kills while Ali Barbeau had nine to lead UCSB.
The Highlanders now conclude their three-match home stand next Saturday, November 8 hosting UC Davis at 7 pm PT at the SRC Arena in Riverside.
