Mens Soccer Nets Seven Players On Big West All Conference Teams

Irvine, CA – The Big West Conference released the 2014 Men's Soccer All-Conference Teams this afternoon, naming UC Riverside's Michael Salazar and Otis Earle to the first team, Ashkan Khosravi to the second team, Romario Lomeli, Stephen Copley, and Philipp Dominique to the Honorable Mention Team, and Ricardo Ruiz to the All-Freshman Team. Salazar, a forward, led the Highlanders with six goals and 13 points during the 2014 season. In conference-only games, he ranks second in the league with 32 shots and is fourth in overall games with 56 shots.

The junior scored three goals in a single match and added one assist for a total of seven points during UC Riverside's season-opener against Pacific (box score/recap/video). He was named Big West Conference Offensive Player of the Week, College Sports Madness Big West Player of the Week, and to College Soccer News National Team of the Week for his efforts (story).

Earle, a defender, finished third on the team with two goals and four assists. In conference-only games, he ranks third in the league with three assists and is tied for seventh place in overall games with four assists.

Khosravi, the Highlanders starting goalkeeper, ranks fourth in the Big West this season with 62 saves and fourth in overall games started and played. He earned the conference's Defensive Player of the Week award for matches from September 15-21 after recording a scoreless draw against San Diego (story).

Lomeli, a midfielder, finished fourth on the team with one goal and four assists. He ranks seventh in the Big West this season with four assists.

Copley, a defender, helped the Highlanders defense limit opponents with just 20 goals all season. He scored his lone goal against Sacramento State in the team's league opener.

Dominique, a defender, was named the Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on October 27 after scoring a lone non-penalty kick goal, which helped defeat UC Irvine on October 22 (story).

Ruiz, a midfielder, leads the team and is tied for first in the Big West with five assists.

The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team clinched the Big West South Division Championship after beating #18 UC Irvine Wednesday evening.  The Highlanders will host the Big West Semifinal match on November 12 at 7 pm PT against the winner of the UC Davis – Cal State Fullerton match.Â
