Team Three-Point Record Falls As Women's Basketball Upends LMU 81-55

Box Score Los Angeles, CA—The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team shattered the program record for three-pointers in a game Saturday evening with 15, and Brittany Crain nearly tied the school single-game mark as well as the Highlanders picked up an 81-55 victory at LMU.

The previous team record was 11 accomplished on five separate occasions, most recently against UC Irvine on February 15, 2014. The individual mark of seven belongs to Debbie Fischer, who lit up Sonoma State on November 23, 1990. Crain finished the game making six of eight, which is the highest single game percentage in school history.

The Lions led 16-15 with 11:24 to go in the first when UCR let loose with a deluge of shots from long distance. Over the next five minutes and 51 seconds, Crain and Akilah Martin each hit a pair of three balls, and Simone DeCoud hit one as part of a 17-0 Highlanders run.

UC Riverside connected on nine threes in all in the first half, but LMU scored the final eight points of the period to cut the Highlanders lead to seven, 35-28, heading into the locker room.

Dynese Adams and Martin each hit three from long range in the first to lead UCR with nine points apiece over the first 20 minutes of play.

The Lions opened the second half by scoring on a Leslie Lopez-Wood jumper, but the Highlanders countered with an 8-0 run to push their advantage back to 13, 43-30. Lopez-Wood drained a three-pointer to end the run, but UC Riverside scored 16 of the next 21 points to effectively end the game.

UCR's three-point barrage continued in the second half as they combined to go six of eight from long distance finishing the game making 15 of 23. overall.

Crain led five Highlanders in double figures with a game-high 24. Martin added 19 while Annelise Ito, DeCoud and Adams each scored 10. Lopez-Wood led the Lions with a career-high 21.

UC Riverside takes a week-long break for final exams before returning to the hardwood on Saturday, December 20 with a home game against Washington at 5 pm PT.
