Riverside—UC Riverside Men's Baseball athlete Jake Smigelski is in his junior season with the blue and gold, and we here at gohighlanders.com got to know him a little better this winter via our Highlander Highlights series.

            ... used to be a competitive golfer as a teen
               ... loves fishing and cooking
Jake's believes the secret to success is a stable relationship, a job you love, and great food.
His favorite quote is, "Talent is God given. Be humble. Fame is man-given. Be grateful. Conceit is self-given. Be careful."
One thing Jake loves about himself is that he is a calm and collective person and doesn't get rattled by the little things in life. His motto is: Life isn't about finding yourself; it's about creating yourself.
If Jake could witness any event, he would have wanted to witness the Battle of Thermopylae, led by King Leonidas of Sparta and the Persian Empire of Xerxes.
