Highlanders' Three Double-Digit Scorers Unable To Top Hawai'i, UCR Falls, 69-58

Honolulu, HI- The UC Riverside women's basketball team (10-8, 1-3) concluded its stretch of travel at Hawaii, dropping another tough contest 69-58 as the teams combined for a total of 40 fouls.

Despite trailing by as many as 10 points in the first half, the Highlanders rallied quickly in the second, tieing the game with 11 minutes remaining. The Highlanders would take the lead twice in the second half, both off three-pointers made by the seventh leading scorer in the nation, Brittany Crain. UCR lost its final lead of the game with 6:37 remaining, off a jumper by Destiny King, who led Hawaii with 17 points.

Crain led the Highlanders with 18 points, giving her 27 consecutive games with 10 or more points, breaking her Division I era record record of 26. Two other Highlanders reached double figures with Akilah Martin shooting six of eight from the field for a total of 13 points and Annelise Ito with 10 points, draining eight out of 11 from the charity stripe.

With Crain's 18 points she now moves into the sixth slot on UC Riverside's all-time list for a career total of 1,359 points, passing Tre'Shonti Nottingham (1,348).

The Highlanders had difficulty on the boards as the Rainbow Wahine pulled down 49 rebounds to UCR's 30. Both King and Ashleigh Karaitiana were one rebound away from recording a double-double with Karaitiana adding 15 points to Hawaii's cause. Shawna-Lei Kuehu added 11 points of her own shooting 4-for-4 from the field.

The Highlanders return to the SRC Arena Thursday, Jan. 22 to take on UC Santa Barabara at 7 pm PT.
