Irvine, CA—The UC Riverside and UC Irvine Volleyball Teams each entered Saturday's Big West match in search of their second conference wins of the season, but it was the Anteaters, behind 14 kills from Harlee Kekauoha and 11 from Dennis Victoria, who walked away with the 3-0 victory.
UC Irvine (8-10, 2-4) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in set number one, and led wire-to-wire to take the first, 25-20.
The Highlanders (6-12, 1-4)Â looked to flip the script in the second as they scored five of the first seven points, and led by as many as five at 10-5. However, the Anteaters scored seven of the next nine points to tie things up, and pulled away for a 25-22 victory.
A 9-2 run midway through the third helped the 'Eaters take control of the third set, and although UC Riverside cut the lead to two on a number of occasions. they were never able to secure the lead.
Fabiana Rosas paced the Highlanders with a match-high 15 kills, while Cristina Maietta and Meg Graham each added eight.
UC Riverside travels up the coast this week heading to UC Santa Barbara, Friday and Cal Poly on Saturday. Both matches begin at 7 pm PT.
