Riverside— The UCR Women's Volleyball Team (7-15, 2-7) was looking to pick up another victory against UC Irvine (10-11, 4-5) Saturday, just one night removed from a 3-2 win over UC Davis, but the UC Irvine Anteaters got 9 kills apeice from Marisa Bubica and Lena Latour, en route to a 3 sets to none victory over the Highlanders.
 
UCR was lead by Helena Peric's 9 kills, 8 kills each from Fabiana Rosas and Alex Gresham, while Chelsea Doyle contributed with 28 assists and 26 digs.

The first set couldn't have been much closer as neither team led by more than three points at any time, and neither team led by more than two for the final 23 points of the set. It was tied at 21 when the Anteaters got back-to-back kills from Idara Akpakpa and Marisa Bubica to go up 23-21. The teams split the final four points of the set with UC Irvine winning 25-23 to take a 1-0 lead.

The Highlanders had a 6-0 run early in the second set and led 13-8, but the 'Eaters countered with a 12-3 run of their own to take control on the set 20-16. UC Riverside battled, but got no closer than a two point defecit, eventually losing the second set by three, 25-22.

The third set started out as tightly contested as the first with ties at 5, 10, and 13 points a piece. The Highlanders created a three point margin, 16-13, and looked to take control of third frame. The Anteaters rallied to force yet another tie, this time at 17 all. UC Irvine won eight out of 10 points to take third set 25-19 and the match 3 sets to none.


The Highlanders are on the road this week as they travel to Hawai'i for a Friday, October 30 meeting with the Rainbow Wahine at 10 pm PT.
