Volleyball Falls To Long Beach State On Senior Night

Box Score Riverside, CA—The UC Riverside Volleyball Team lost a three-setter to Long Beach State Saturday evening in Big West Conference action. Prior to the match, the Highlanders celebrated senior night by honoring the three members of the class of 2016: Ashley Cox, Sandy Fung, and Helena Peric. view photo

In the first set, the Highlanders had a 3-1 lead, but that would be last lead of the set. The set was tied at 8 and 11 before the 49ers seized control with a 7-1 run to create a six point margin 18-12. The Beach would retain that six point margin, taking the first set, 25-19.

Long Beach State opened the second frame with a 9-1 charge, and the Highlanders would score four points straight with the set 18-8 to get it to 18-12, but that is as close at the second set would get as the 49ers won the second set, 25-17.   

In the matches third set and the seasons' final one, UC Riverside led 7-5 early on, but LBSU won 15 of 17 points to go up 20-9. A pair of kill by Alexis Urbach stopped the rally at 21-11, but Long Beach State would eventually win the third 25-15, and the match three sets to none.

Fabiana Rosas led UCR with a 15 kills, Peric 8, and Ashley Cox had a service ace.
Nele Barber had 14 kills to lead the Beach.
