Irvine —This afternoon the Big West Conference announced that UCR forward Rejane Verin was named Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Verin, a redshirt-junior from Les Abymes, Guadeloupe, sat out last season after transferring from UNLV, and playing two seasons there.
She began the week playing at a high level with 22 points in an 86-68 Highlander win Monday at San Diego State. She then found another level in road losses at two nationally ranked Pac-12 schools, #21 Cal, and #7 Oregon State.
Friday against Cal, Verin recorded her first double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds to go along with 5 steals, 4 assists and a block in 38 minutes.
Sunday, versus Oregon State, she scored a game-high 25 points, had 8 rebounds, 4 steals, an assist and a block, while playing the entire 40 minutes of the game.
On being named Big West Player of the Week, Verin said, "I'm happy about receiving this award, but we still have a lot of work to do this season."
