Irvine, CA—The Big West announced today that UC Riverside second baseman Joe Chavez is the recipient of the conference Baseball Player of the Week Award for games played from February 9-15.
This is the second weekly honor for the senior, who also won the award back on March 11, 2013 (

Chavez helped the Highlanders to their first 4-0 start since the 2010 season over the weekend by posting on offensive slash line of .545/.647/.818.
The Ontario, CA native recorded at least one hit and one run scored in each of the four games, and drove in a run in each of the last three games.
Chavez was 2-for-2 with a run scored, two walks and a stolen base in the season-opening 3-1 victory over the Pilots. He registered his second multiple-hit game of the series in Saturday's game two of a doubleheader, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and a triple.
In the field, he helped turn four of UCR's five double plays, and did not commit an error in 23 chances.
Chavez is tied for first in the Big West in average and leads in runs scored with six.
