Box Score Fullerton- The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team concluded its 2014-15 season with a 17-14 mark after falling to Cal State Fullerton, 71-69 in the first round of the Big West Tournament.
For the first time since 2010-11, the Highlanders reached the post-season as the sixth seed after finishing the regular season with a 8-8 conference record. The last time UCR participated in the Big West Tournament they were seeded third and reached as far the Quarterfinals.
After a sluggish start to the first half, the Highlanders spent the remaining time mounting a 7-0 run and eventually an 11-point lead with 6:30 minutes to go. The Titans were forced to battle from behind and after a bit, prevented UCR from scoring the last four minutes of the half, taking the lead 29-27 at the break.
The Highlanders made good on 12-of-30 attempts from the floor in the first half to the Titans 7-of-25. After averaging 21.2 trips to the free-throw over the past 12 games, UC Riverside was unsuccessful on its five attempts in the first 20 minutes of play while Cal State Fullerton converted 11 points off 14 shots from the charity stripe.
UC Riverside was led by Simone DeCoud who scored 17 points hitting 7 of her 14 attempts from the field, adding two three-pointers and five rebounds. Contributing to the Highlanders offensive efforts was Freshman of the Year, Michelle Curry with 13 points and led the squad with eight rebounds.
Dynese Adams and Player of the Year, Brittany Crain logged nine points each. Adams also handed out four assists on the night in what was her last game for the blue and gold.
Cal State Fullerton will advance to the Quarterfinals after being led by the second leading in scorer in the conference, Chante Miles who had a game-high 26 points making 13 of her 14 free-throw attempts. Tailer Butler and Kathleen Iwuoha also added double-digit points with 15 and 17, respectively.
