Riverside—The Tulane Baseball Team scored three runs in the eighth and one in the ninth to turn a 5-2 UC Riverside advantage into a 6-5 Green Wave victory Saturday afternoon at The Plex. The win evened the series between the clubs at one game apiece. Game three is slated for 11 am Sunday.
Kevin Sprague pitched six strong innings for the Highlanders (9-13) allowing five hits and striking out six through six innings. Tulane (17-6) scored two runs off of Sprague but just one of them was earned.
Jordan Kron pitched a shutout inning of relief, but Matthew Ellis, taking his first turn on the mound as a collegian, was touched for two runs in his two-thirds of an inning giving up a two-run blast to Hunter Hope.
Gabe Genter took over for Ellis, but Hunter Williams greeted him with a solo shot over the left field wall to tie the score.
Closer Ryan Lillie pitched the ninth, but he gave up a lead off single to Tyler Wilson, and pinch runner Richard Carthon came around to score what would prove to be the game winner.
The Highlanders banged out 17 hits on the day, but stranded 10 runners and hit into three double plays.
