Vermillion, SD—Sammy Arellano picked a great time to net her first two scores of the season, as her goals proved to be the only offense in the UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team's 2-0 victory at South Dakota Friday afternoon.
Her first score came in the 26th minute as Danielle Lopez uncorked a shot that was blocked by a Coyotes defender, but Arellano was there to clean up the rebound to put the Highlanders up 1-0.
It was still a 1-0 match with just under 14 minutes remaining, when Arellano dented the back of the net again, this time top shelf from 20 yards out.
Goalkeeper Elizabeth Silas was credited with five saves in the win as the Highlanders improved to 5-5-0 on the season.
UC Riverside remains on the road this weekend as the Highlanders travel to North Dakota State Sunday for an 11 am PT kick off against the Bison.
