Irvine—For the second time this season, senior Brittany Crain was selected as Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Crain averaged 30.5 points, 5.0 rebounds a game and shot 56% from the field in leading the team to a pair of historic victories to open Big West conference competition.
Thursday's, 93-69, home win over UC Irvine was the first conference opening win since the 2008-09 season. She had 28 points, including 19 in the first half, to go along with six rebounds in the win.
Saturday at UC Santa Barbara, with just eight players available, she led UCR to it's largest margin of victory in a Big West road win (30, 83-53) in 10 years.The guard from Moreno Valley scored 33 points and grabbed four rebounds, while playing all 40 minutes of the game.
Crain's second selection of the season marks the first time in the Division I history of the program that two players have received multiple Player of the Week honors in the same season.
Forward Rejane Verin has also been recognized twice this season.
This week's selection is the seventh of her career, just three shy of all-time leader Kemie Nkele's 10.
Crain was also named College Sports Madness
Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week and
National Mid-Major Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
