Crain Tops 2,000 Point Mark In, 93-83, Win Over Cal Poly

Box Score Riverside—Senior guard Brittany Crain topped the 2,000 point mark for her career in a, 93-83, home win over Cal Poly. Crain poured in a game-high 27 points, and made timely jumpers that helped the Highlanders (13-7, 6-0) hold off a late charge from the Mustangs to remain a perfect 6-0 in Big West play. (Highlights)

She joins fellow Highlanders Donna Hammond Mares and Kemie Nkele in the exclusive club, and is the seventh player in Big West history to reach 2,000 points.

The record clinching bucket came midway through the fourth period, when Crain curled off a screen to the free throw line, caught an on target pass from fellow John W. North alum Simone DeCoud, jumped stopped, then released a picture perfect shot that hit nothing but net. (watch)

Cal Poly (10-9, 3-3) outscored UCR in third period, erasing the, 50-36, 14 point halftime deficit.

With 58 seconds to play in the third period the Mustangs got back-to-back layups from twins Lynn and Dynn Leaupepe to make it a one point deficit at, 67-66.

Annelise Ito responded with a jumper for the last score of the third quarter to give the home team a three-point lead heading into the final frame. Dynn Leaupepe has 12 points in the quarter for Cal Poly.

Leading, 75-73, in the fourth period the Highlanders got the historic jumper from Crain that sparked a 6-0 run that helped put the game out of reach, as the UC Riverside held on for the, 93-83, victory.

Crain's 27 led five UCR players in double figures, including Réjane Vérin who had her second straight double double with 13 points and 14 rebounds to go along with eight assists.
