Mickayla Sherman Wins Volleyball's First Big West Freshman Of The Week Award

Riverside—This afternoon the Big West Conference announced that outside hitter Mickayla Sherman was named Freshman of the Week for her play October 10-16, making her the first Freshman of the Week honoree in the history of the program.

Sherman had a career-high 26 kills in leading the Highlanders to their first Big West conference victory Friday night over UC Santa Barbara, 3-1. Sherman hit a season-best .400 for the match, and served up an ace as well. She also logged a career-high 11 digs, and assisted on three blocks in the win (story).

The Antioch, CA native leads the team with 208 kills in the 2016 campaign, and is third on the squad with five solo blocks.

In addition to being the first Big West Freshman of the Week award for UCR Volleyball, it's also the third conference recognition this season for the team, as Fabiana Rosas and Maddie Hubbell were honored in the season's opening weekend (UCR Big West POTW list).
