Riverside—Senior libero Maddie Hubbell became the UC Riverside Volleyball All-time digs leader last night as she had 17 digs at UC Davis (
box score) to reach 1,558 for her career, surpassing 2015 UCR Athletics Hall of Fame Inductee and Two-Time All-American Sheryl Benson-Rawlins' (84, 86, 88-89) mark of 1,556 (
all-time list).
"I'm excited to move to the top of the UCR digs list, and am honored to be in the company of many other great defensive players in the history of UCR Volleyball.", said Hubbell. " To do it alongside my teammates and coaches who have pushed me to be my best, is something I will always remember and am very grateful for.", she added.
The Bakersfield native led the Big West in total digs (525) and digs per set (4.91) last season, which earned her First Team All-Conference honors. Hubbell has recorded four 30-plus dig performances in her career, and on October 24, 2015, she tallied a career-best 33 digs in a, 3-2, victory over UC Davis (

On three occasions she has been named Big West Defensive Player of the Week, including this season's opening weekend, when she averaged 5.75 digs per set over three matches in the Cal Molten Classic. The Liberty High School alum had 69 total digs, 13 assists and three service aces to help the Highlanders finish 2-1 in the tournament (

"For Maddie to break a UCR record that has stood for over 25 years is a testament to her commitment, as well as the tremendous hard work she has invested over the past four years.", said Head Coach Michelle Patton-Coleman. "I am so happy for her, and I am extremely proud of all the things she has been able to accomplish as our teams defensive leader."
Hubbell is now 125 digs away from breaking into the top-10 on the Big West all-time digs list with 1683. The Highlanders have nine matches remaining in the 2016 regular season.
