Riverside—The Salt Lake City Stars selected former UC Riverside Men's Basketball player Jaylen Bland in the first round of the 2016 NBA D-League Draft on Sunday afternoon, making him the first member of the Highlanders to be drafted in the 16-year-old developmental league (

Salt Lake City is the
D-League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, and is playing its first season as the Stars. Prior to the 2016-17 season, the team was known as the Idaho Stampede. The Stars play their home games at the Lifetime Activities Center-Bruin Arena on the campus of Sale Lake City Community College.
Bland became the Highlanders single-season (118) and career (213) leader in made three pointers during his senior season, and ranked fourth in the nation in made threes per game. He also ranked among the top 10 in the conference in scoring (4th, 16.1), three-point field goal percentage (.404), minutes per game (33.9), free throw percentage (.827) and steals (47).
The Sagnaw, Michigan native it a two-time All-Big West Conference Second Team honoree, and was named Big West New Comer of the Year as a junior. He scored 1,002 points in his two years with the Highlanders.
