Santa Barbara,CA-The UC Riverside Volleyball Team got 17 kills from Cristina Maietta to lead four Highlanders with double-digit kills in their, 3-2, victory after a five-set battle with the Gauchos.

The clubs split the first two sets, with the hosts narrowly taking set one, 25-23, and the blue and gold claiming the second, 25-21. 

UC Santa Barbara responded by winning the third frame, 25-9, in which they had runs of 6-0 and 7-0. 

In the fourth, UCR broke the 15-15 tie and outscored UCSB 6-2 to create a four point advantage at 21-17. The Highlanders would get a service ace from Chelsea Doyle and a kill from Brooke Callahan in closing out the set, 25-21, to force a decisive fifth set. 

UC Riverside jumped out to a 6-2 lead early in the fifth, before Santa Barbara rallied to tie the match at nine all. Maietta then smashed a kill set up Doyle, who had 39 assists on the night, to break the tie, and she would also connect on the match clinching kill.

She had five of her match-high 17 kills in the final set, as the Highlanders again outscored the Gauchos 6-2, but this time it would spell victory, 15-11. 

Mickayla Sherman tallied 12 kills to go with eight digs in the win. Callahan finished with 11 kills, and Meg Graham added 10 to round the four players with double-digit kills. 

Maddie Hubbell lead the defense with 15 digs, and was joined by Maietta and Doyle each with 14 in their double-double efforts, while Frances Camandang dug up 13 attempts to make four Highlanders with double figure digs.

The victory completed the season sweep of UC Santa Barbara, the second occurrence since joining the Big West, having upended Cal State Fullerton twice last year.

UC Riverside returns home for "Senior Night" on Friday November 18th, when they'll honor Hubbell and Maietta.
