Vérin, DeCoud, Lewis Combine To Scored 42 Points, But Women's Hoops Falls, 67-49 At USC

Box Score Los Angeles, CA—Réjane Vérin, Skyler Lewis and Simone DeCoud combined to score 42 points Wednesday evening at the Galen Center, and the Highlanders held USC to 37.1-percent shooting from the floor, but it wasn't quite enough as the Trojans topped the Highlanders, 67-49.

The third quarter proved to be the difference as USC turned an eight-point halftime lead into a 15-point advantage with 10 minutes to go. Lewis opened the third quarter with a lay up to slice the Trojans lead to six, and a pair of Vérin free throws made it 34-30, but USC scored 10 of the next 12 points, and never led by fewer than 10 the rest of the way.

UC Riverside led early on thanks in large part to Vérin, who scored nine of the team's first 17 points. A 10-0 USC run midway through the first gave the Torajans the lead, but the Highlanders sliced the advantage to one at the end of the quarter.

UCR made it a two-point game, 23-21, with 5:04 to go in the second, before USC countered with an 9-0 run for their largest lead of the night up until that point, 32-21. DeCoud scored the Highlanders final five points of the half from the free throw line, and the Trojans took an eight-point lead into the locker room, 34-26.

USC's defense held UC Riverside to 38.0 percent shooting from the field (19 of 50) for the game, and forced the Highlanders into 29 turnovers. The Trojans also enjoyed an edge at the free throw line going 15 for 24, while the UCR made nine of 15 form the charity stripe.

UC Riverside remains on the road this week, traveling to Cal Friday, November 18, for their second straight game against a Pac-12 opponent. Tip is slated for 11:30 am PT.
