Second Half Surge Too Much As Men's Basketball Drops, 77-61, Decision At Northern Colorado

Greeley, CO—The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team played Northern Colorado even for most of the first half Tuesday evening, but the Bears went on a 14-2 run late in the first, and outscored the Highlanders 41-33 in the second period on their way to a 77-61 victory.

Neither team led by more than four points for the first 16 minutes, but Northern Colorado made four of its last five shots of the period to take an eight-point advantage into the locker room, 36-28. DJ Miles was the key contributor for the Bears on offense making six of eight shots from the floor, including two of three from long distance, and a free throw for 15 points. Miles was UNC's third leading scorer coming into the game despite coming off the bench in eight of 10 games.

UC Riverside cut the lead to six early in the second, but the Highlanders had no answer for the Bears' offense. UNC connected on 52.7 percent of their shots for the game, including 57.7 in the second half.

Bears' second-leading scorer Chaz Glotta, who had a quiet five points in the first, made three of five from long range in the second on his way to a 15-point night. All three of those shots came as Northern Colorado extended its lead to as many as 27. Leading scorer Jordan Davis was held relatively in check as he scored 12 points, nearly nine below his season average. He was still active on offense, though handing out a game-high seven assists.

Gentrey Thomas paced UCR with 13 points on six of 11 shooting, but the Highlanders as a team continued to struggle offensively, making just 33.9 percent of their field goal attempts on the night. Chance Murray and Dikymbe Martin each added 10 points for UC Riverside, and Murray recorded a career-high five steals.

The Highlanders continue their trek through Colorado territory on Thursday as UC Riverside travels to Denver for a 6 pm PT tip against the Pioneers.
