Crain Scores A Career-High 39 In, 90-43, Win Over Cal State Fullerton

Fullerton—Brittany Crain scored a career-high 39 points to lead three players in double figures in a, 90-43, win over Cal State Fullerton.

A 36-6 second quarter broke the game wide open for UC Riverside (16-7, 9-0) as they defeated Cal State Fullerton (2-22, 0-10) to remain alone atop the Big West.

It was a historic night for Brittany Crain, who become UCR's all-time leader in three point field goals, moved into second place on the all-time scoring list, established a new career-high and also connected on a career-high seven triples.

The team set a new defensive mark for the season, holding the Titans to 43 points for the game—10 below the previous mark set on the road at UCSB on January 9.

Akilah Martin and Crain hit back-to-back threes to open the second period, followed by a Simone DeCoud steal and layup on the other end, forcing a timeout by the Titans.

The Highlander momentum would continue. Leading 38-20, UCR went on a 12-0 run to close out the half.

Crain connected on 4-of-5 three point attempts in collecting 14 points and Martin scored eight in the period. Martin connected on all three of her free throw attempts—she is a perfect 11-11 on the year.

The Highlanders held the Titans to just 2-12 shooting in the period, 16.6 percent. UCR scored a season-high 36 points in the frame and led, 50-20, at halftime.

Crain had 23 points at the intermission to go along with Martin's 11. Michelle Berry and Jade Vega scored six points apiece for the Titans.

With 39 seconds to play in the fourth quarter, Crain was sitting on 36 points when she cut to the basket, caught a pass from Decoud, and made a tough off balance layup while getting fouled. She would make the free throw en route to establishing a new career-high of 39 points.

The Highlanders lead by as much 49 in the fourth quarter in claiming their 10th win in a row, ninth in the Big West, by a score of, 90-43.

UCR matched their season-high with 27 assists, and eclipsed the record for margin of victory in a road win (30) established at UCSB Jan. 9.

Rejane Verin recorded her fifth double double of the season with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and Martin nearly reached her career-high of 18 points, tallying 16 in the win.

Lauren Nubla was the only Titan to reach double figures with 10, while Berry and Vega finished with 9 each.

The Highlanders remain on the road, with a Saturday afternoon affair at Cal Poly at 4 pm.
