Crain's 28 Leads Five In Double Figures In, 83-58, Win Over The Beach

Riverside—Brittany Crain had 28 points to lead five starters in double figures, as UCR (18-7, 11-0) completed the season sweep of Long Beach State (18-7, 7-4) with an, 83-58 home victory.

The Highlanders forced the 49ers into 19 turnovers, which they converted into 22 points.

In the first meeting of the season, Crain was held to just seven points, tonight she nearly doubled that total in the first quarter with 13, helping UCR to a, 29-16, advantage.

Simone DeCoud was a perfect 3-of-3 from long distance in totaling 11 first half points. Crain had 21 at the break, including 4-of 5 from deep, further adding to the school's all-time mark.

Raven Benton and Anna Kim had 9 apiece for the Beach after 20 minutes played.

In the third period, the visitors cut the deficit to 11 at 53-42, but the Highlanders responded to close out the quarter on an, 11-0 run.  In the run, Crain, Rejane Verin, Michelle Curry and Inara Nyingifa all had buckets.

The fourth period would begin with the Highlanders leading, 70-49. The Beach opened the final frame with back-to-back buckets, but UCR regained control, this time with a 8-0 spurt that would push the lead to 25, which would be the finishing margin, as the Highlanders held to 49ers to just nine fourth quarter points to go on for the, 83-58, win.

Crain's 28 led all scorers. Simone DeCoud poured in 17 points, grabbed eight boards and dished out six assists.

Michelle Curry was a perfect 5-5 from the floor and the free-throw line for 15 points, and Verin had 11 points and 11 rebounds for her third straight double double. Nyingifa scored a career-high 10 points.

Thursday night was the 12th time three players have scored 15 or more points in a game; UCR is 11-1 in those games. (Oregon, 95-81)
