Eighth Inning Home Run Gives LMU, 2-1, Win Over UC Riverside Baseball

Box Score Los Angeles, CA—Aaron Cisneros gave the UC Riverside Baseball Team a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the top of the second, but LMU's Austin Miller belted a two-run shot in the bottom of the eighth to give the Lions a 2-1 victory.

In just the second start of his collegiate career, Hazahel Quijada pitched two innings of two hit baseball, handing the game over to Cameron Haskell in the third. By then, Cisneros had already put the Highlanders (12-15) on top, turning on the first pitch he saw to lead off the top of the second, and sending it over the left field wall for his third home run of the season.

Haskell (0-1) was just as effective as Quijada, allowing three hits over his first five innings, and UC Riverside's one-run lead held up until the eighth.

Meanwhile, LMU starter Tyler Cohen settled down after Cisneros long ball, scattering three additional hits over six-and-two-thirds innings. Brenton Arriaga tossed a scoreless inning of relief for the Lions and Harrison Simon (2-0) retired the lone batter he faced to end the top of the eighth..

In LMU's (14-15) half of the frame, Haskell struck out pinch hitter Joe Christian, but Spencer Erdman worked a walk to put the tying run aboard, and Miller drilled a 1-0 offering over the right center field wall to give the Lions the lead. Jared Morton came on to relieve Haskell and recorded the last two outs of the inning,

Sean Watkins pitched a 1-2-3 top of the ninth to nail down the win for LMU, and record his third save of the season.

The Highlanders remain on the road this weekend, traveling to UC Irvine for a three-game Big West Conference series against the Anteaters.
