Offense Erupts For Three Goals In Shutout Win At Akron

Akron, OH—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team enjoyed its best offensive output of the season Sunday afternoon, as the Highlanders picked up a 3-0 shutout against the Akron Zips.

All three scores came within a 20-minute stretch of play in the second half. Blanca Barrio broke the scoreless tie in the 61st minute with her first goal of the season, beating the Zips keeper to the left side of the goal.

Just over 16 minutes later, Madeline Feist picked up her first career goal as a member of the Highlanders, taking an Amanda Apelian pass, and drilling into the upper left corner. Quinley Quezada finished the scoring in the 80th minute, finding the upper right hand corner of the goal for the final 3-0 margin of victory.

The three goals in the match, was the most for the Highlanders all season, and the most since a 3-1 win vs. UC Davis on October 11, 2015 (box score/recap).

Annie Bailey got her first start of the year in goal for UC Riverside, recording seven saves in the win. The last Highlanders keeper to begin her career with a shutout was Sara Slaughter, who blanked Pacific, 1-0, on October 9 (box score/recap/video recap).

The Highlanders remain on the road next week traveling to Houston Friday, September 16 at 5 pm PT and Texas A&M on Sunday, September 18 at 4 pm.
