In addition to their miscues, the Titans (8-10, 2-3) also misfired on 34 of 56 shots from the field, marking the third time in five games that UCR held an opponent to below 40 percent shooting.
The Highlanders began to break the game open with 4:29 gone in the second. Cal State Fullerton had just tied the score at 42 on a pair of Darcy Malone free throws. UC Riverside scored 13 of the next 16 points over the next five minutes to lead by 10, 55-45.
The Highlanders pushed their advantage out to 13 points at one point, but the Titans had one more run left in them, closing to within five with 62 seconds to go, but UCR made three of its final four free throws to seal the victory.
Alex Larsson, Chance Murray and Gentrey Thomas each scored 14 points in the win, and the Highlanders made 50.0 percent of their shots from the field, including 41.2 percent from three-point range.
UC Riverside held the Titans three leading scorers on the year—Tré Coggins, Khalil Ahmad and Lionheart Leslie—to 14 points below their season average.
The Highlanders return to the Inland Empire this weekend for a 4 pm PT tip Saturday against UC Santa Barbara.
