Honolulu, HI— The UC Riverside Volleyball Team (9-11,1-7) was looking to be the second team to defeat Hawai'i during Big West Conference play in 2017, but dropped three straight sets to second-place Hawai'i (14-6, 8-1), Friday.
SET ONE (25-22, HI)
Key Runs: Trailing by as much as seven, the Highlanders battled back to tie the Rainbow Wahine at 20. Three consecutive attack errors by UCR gave Hawai'i a lead which would claim the first set.
SET TWO (25-12, HI)
Key Runs: UC Riverside won the first two points, but Hawai'i scored seven of the next eight points to take control of the set.
SET THREE (25-18, HI)
Key Runs: The Highlanders and Rainbow Wahine split the first six points. The Highlanders led by up to two points until 7-5 when the Rainbow Wahine scored four consecutive points to take a lead they would never relinquish.
GAME NOTES
Nicole Rodriguez led the Highlanders with 20 digs and recorded double digit digs for the 18th time in 20 matches this season.
Chelsea Doyle recorded double-digit assists for the 20th time this season, continuing her streak of double-digit assists in every match of 2017. Doyle logged her 11th assist-dig double-double of the season (21 assists,10 digs).
Mickayla Sherman led the Highlanders with six kills, followed by Kaiulani Ahuna and Fabiana Rosas with five kills apiece, and Brooke Callahan with four. The Highlander's 25 kills in the match were their fewest of the season.
