Antonio Lokossou Named Big West Offensive Player Of The Week Following Clutch Performances

Riverside, CA—UC Riverside's Antonio Lokossou was named the Big West Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career after putting away two game-winners in the final week of the 2017 regular season, the Big West announced Monday. The junior forward becomes the first Highlander to earn the award this year.

With the Highlanders needing two victories to qualify for the Big West Tournament, Lokossou capped off a pair of come-from-behind efforts with his second and third game-winning goals of the conference season, a mark which leads the Big West.

Facing UC Irvine on October 25, Lokossou broke a 1-1 tie in the 41st minute, putting the Highlanders up for good as they eventually went on to win, 2-1.

Just three nights later, the Phoenix, Arizona native broke another 1-1 tie, this time in the 85th minute, to give UC Riverside three points in another must-win scenario. The Highlanders finished 4-5-1 in conference for 13 points, narrowly edging out UC Irvine—which finished with 11 points—for the number three seed in the South Division.

Lokossou becomes the first Highlander to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors since Norberto Ochoa in 2015 (Story). He and the rest of the UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team will be back in action this Wednesday, November 1 when they face UC Santa Barbara in the first round of the Big West Tournament.
