Box Score Davis, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team was unable to overcome 21 turnovers Saturday evening as the Highlanders fell, 77-63, on the road at UC Davis.
It was UC Riverside's second straight loss, and snapped a three-game winning streak on the road for the Highlanders. The loss dropped UCR a game and a half behind Hawai'i. CSUN and Long Beach State, who are tied for third place in the Big West pending the outcomes of their Saturday night contests.
UC Riverside led 15-14 following a pair of Brandon Rosser free throws with 9:22 to go in the first, but the Highlanders scored just five points over the remainder of the period, as the Aggies closed the half on a 20-5 run. UC Riverside committed 13 turnovers over the first 20 minutes which UC Davis turned into 13 points.
Defensively, the Highlanders (7-15, 5-6) held their own holding the Aggies to 37.0 percent from the field, but UCD matched them, as UC Riverside netted just 31.3 percent of their shots from the field.
Siler Schneider scored 13 points in the first to pace the Aggies (16-9, 8-2), while Rosser led the Highlanders with seven.
Alex Larsson scored the first basket after the intermission, but Davis eventually extended its lead to as many as 22. Despite making 55.2 percent of their shots in the second, the Highlanders never got closer than 14 the rest of the way. The Aggies made 17 of 22 free throws in the second half to seal the victory.
Rosser finished with 15 points—his third straight double-digit scoring effort—while Secean Johnson added a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double, and Dikymbe Martin chipped in with 12 points.
Brynton Lemar's 14 points led four Aggies in double figures, as UC Davis remained undefeated at home this season.
The Highlanders return home this week for a Thursday, February 16 meeting with Cal State Fullerton. TIp is slated for 8 pm PT.
