Riverside–Michelle Curry scored 19 of her career-high tying 24 points in the second half, hit a three to send the game into overtime, but the UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team fell, 70-67, to CSUN in overtime Saturday night at the SRC Arena.
Réjane Verin posted her eighth double-double of the year with 20 points and a season high 16 rebounds, while Lauren Holt continued her solid play pouring in 17 points, including knocking down five triples.
Trailing by five in the fourth period with 12 seconds to play, Holt connected on a corner three to make it a single possession game, 62-60.
The Highlanders sent the Matadors to the line, where Serafina Maulupe made one of two attempts.
Out of timeouts, UCR inbounded the ball to Curry, who crossed half court, and stopped at the three point line, pump faked, made sure her foot was behind the line before burying a three-pointer that tied the game at 63 apiece..
Curry's fourth connect of her seventh attempt from long distance this season would send the game into overtime.
CSUN got on the board first in the extra frame on a three from Maulupe. Curry then made a pair free throws on consecutive UCR trips down the floor to put the Highlanders ahead 67-66.
After missed on both ends, Serafina connected from three for a second time in the overtime period to put the Matadors ahead, 69-67.
The Highlanders missed on their next four attempts from the field, and CSUN tacked on a free throw en route to the 70-67 victory.
Maulupe finished 22 points for the Matadors, who got 18 points and 18 rebounds from Channon Fluker in the win.
UC Riverside got 61 of its 67 points from Curry, Vérin, and Holt on a night when the other four players who took shots went 2-26 combined.
The loss snapped a 13-game conference winning streak, and dropped them to 7-4 in the conference potentially tying them with UC Santa Barbara, who they'll host Thursday at 5 pm PT.
