Johnson, Martin Earn All-Big West Honorable Mention Accolades

Irvine, CA—The Big West announced today that UC Riverside Men's Basketball players Secean Johnson and Dikymbe Martin were named to the all-conference honorable mention team for their play during the 2016-17 season.

Johnson led the Highlanders in scoring (11.6 ppg) and rebounding (5.8 rpg) during the regular season, while finishing second on the team in steals. He also was tops on the team in free throws made (103) and attempted (136). The senior saved his best for last, as he is averaging 16.3 points per game over his last three games heading into the Big West Conference Tournament.

This is the second All-Big West Honorable Mention award for the senior, who transferred to UC Riverside prior to the 2015-16 season from Seward County Community College.

Martin, a Riverside, California native, finished third on the team in scoring (9.3), first in assists (73), and first in steals (37). He also paced the squad in free throw percentage (.833).

In just his first year with the Highlanders, Martin becomes the program's first freshman to earn a spot on one of the all-conference teams since Rickey Porter received a second-team nod in the 2005-06 season. Nate Carter is the only other UC Riverside Men's Basketball player to earn all-conference honors as a freshman, making the second team in 2002-03.

The Highlanders take on top-seeded UC Irvine in the first round of the Big West Tournament on Thursday, March 9 at 6 pm PT at Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
