Santa Barbara–The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team fell, 6-3, to DII #12 Westmont Friday in the first of three matches along the California Central Coast this weekend.
The match was played to nine points instead of seven with all matches counting as one point each with doubles matches played to eight points rather than six.
The Highlanders picked up a point in no. 3 doubles, when Kyle McCann and Max Cohen got past Austin Lee and Tommy Nightingale, 8-4.
Westmont (11-7) prevailed in line one and three doubles to take a 2-1 advantage into singles play. The clubs split the first two matches to finish with UCR picking up a point at line five via Gilbert Chung's 11th straight singles victory, 6-1, 6-4 over Nightingale.
Anderson Ju's, 6-2, 6-3, straight sets victory over Luke Barbard in no. 6 singles evened the match 3-3. The Warriors then won the last three matches to finish en route to a 6-3 win.
The Highlanders will resume Big West play Saturday at Cal Poly in noon match-up, before playing an Easter Sunday match against UC Santa Barbara at 10 am.
