Box Score Riverside—The UC Riverside Baseball Team fell behind early Tuesday evening, and was never able to bounce back, dropping a 10-1 decision to visiting San Diego State.
The Aztecs came into Tuesday's game ranked as one of the top 20 offensive teams in the nation, and they showed why, scoring in each of the first three innings to take a 6-1 lead over the Highlanders after three.
UC Riverside starter Angel Landazuri (1-3) was touched for six hits and four runs in his two innings of work, while Trenton Toplikar gave up a pair of runs in the third, before settling down to pitch a scoreless fourth and fifth innings.
The Highlanders (13-19) bats struggled against each of San Diego State's seven pitchers on the evening, recording five hits. Michael Farris gave UC Riverside its only run in the bottom of the second, when he launched his fourth home run of the season over the Baker's Drive-Thru sign in left.
San Diego State (27-11) scored a single run in the top of the sixth and three more in the ninth for the final nine-run margin of victory.
UC Riverside did flash some leather in the game, turning a 2-5-4-3 triple play to end the third.
Harrison Pyatt (2-2) got credit for the win for the Aztecs.
The Highlanders are on the road this weekend, traveling to CSUN for a three-game Big West Conference series.
