Riverside—The UC Riverside Volleyball Team remained perfect at home Friday evening with a 3-1 victory over visiting San Jose State. The Highlanders are nor 4-1 on the season, and 2-0 in this weekend's UC Riverside Classic.
SET ONE (25-16, SJSU)
Key Run: San Jose State led 12-10, and scored six of the next seven points. The Highlanders were unable to get closer than six the rest of the way.
SET TWO (25-15, UCR)
Key Runs: Tied at 11, the Highlanders scored three straight points to secure a lead they would never relinquish. Leading 19-14, UC Riverside scored four consecutive points to effectively put the set out of reach.
SET THREE (25-22, UCR)
Key Run: UC Riverside led by as many as eight in the set, but San Jose State closed to within two at 23-21. The team's traded points down the stretch, with Fabiana Rosas' kill giving the Highlanders the win, 25-22.
SET FOUR (25-22, UCR)
Key Run:
Neither team led by more than three points during the set, and the Highlanders found themselves trailing 18-15. UC Riverside scored the next four points, thanks in part to three kills by Kaiulani Ahuna. The Highlanders scored the final three points to secure the win.
GAME NOTES
The 4-1 start to the season ties the best start in the Highlanders' Division I history (2001, 2004, 2005). The 2001 UC Riverside squad began the season with seven wins in its first eight matches, and the 2004 team won eight of its first nine. The 2005 team began the year 11-1.
Kaiulani Ahuna recorded a season-high 18 kills in the match.
Nicole Rodriguez has double digit digs in each of her five matches this season.
Chelsea Doyle has at least 36 assist in each of her five matches this season, and 41 or more in her last four matches.
