Riverside, CA – The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team (8-18) made it five wins in its last six home games on Thursday night against CSUN (13-13), behind a game-high 21 points from senior guard Lauren Holt. The Highlanders defeated the visiting Matadors 69-58.
Key Runs
The Highlanders dominated the 1st quarter, outscoring the Matadors 20-7, but CSUN would even it up by half time winning the 2nd quarter 22-9. The two teams headed to the locker rooms even at 29-29.
UCR would take the lead in the 3rd quarter to grab a double digit deficit in the game. With just 3:08 left in the 3rd, UC Riverside led by just 3 points, but a solid run to end the quarter gave them a 50-41 advantage heading into the final quarter of play.
Game Notes
Holt scored 20 points for the 8th time this season, knocking down 4 three-pointers, which ties her season high. She has now scored in double-figures in 19 consecutive games.
Skyler Lewis went a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line on her way to 13 points. The red-shirt sophomore also added 4 blocks, just one shy of a career-high.
Marina Ewodo put up a well-rounded stat line with 8 points, 5 rebounds, and a season-high tying 7 assists.
UC Riverside was out-rebounded 48-29, but forced 24 turnovers as four different Highlanders finished with 2 or more steals apiece, led by Holt (4).
Jannon Otto and Michelle Curry scored 11 points apiece to round out UCR's double-digit scorers.
The Highlanders will look to win their second straight game this Thursday at 7:00 PM at Cal State Fullerton.
