Highlanders Picked Fourth in Big West Preseason Coaches Poll

Irvine, CA—UC Riverside has been selected to finish fourth by the coaches in the 2006 Big West Conference Men's Soccer Preseason Poll, it was announced Friday. It is the highest preseason spot ever for the Highlanders, who received 14 total votes.
UCR went 6-12-1 in 2005, including a 4-6-0 record in Big West play, good enough for fourth place. The Highlanders return 13 letterwinners and seven starters from that squad, including All-Big West Honorable Mention sophomore forward Kyle Ochoa.
UC Santa Barbara earned 33 points, including four first-place votes, to claim the top spot. The Gauchos were followed by defending champion Cal State Northridge, who gained 29 points and one first-place vote. UC Irvine was third with 27 points and one first-place vote. Cal State Fullerton (12 points) and Cal Poly (11 points) round out the poll.
