UCR Volleyball Beats Aggies for Second Straight Conference Win

Shannon Moyneur Records Career-High 14 Blocks
After winning their first conference match of the season last week against Cal State Northridge, the UC Riverside Volleyball Team (7-12, 2-2) kept the momentum going as they traveled up to Northern California and beat the UC Davis Aggies 3-1 on Friday evening for their second consecutive conference victory of the year.
The Highlanders won the first two sets 25-22 and 26-24 before UC Davis (8-10, 0-5) won the third set 25-21 to extend the match. Down 15-9 in the fourth, UCR went on a 13 to three run to take a 22-18 lead off a Kelly Fink (San Dimas, CA) kill. The Aggies came back and tied it at 22 apiece before trading points with the Highlanders until another Fink kill and a UCD error gave UC Riverside a 28-26 victory.
For the third consecutive game, Dominique Cowling (Benicia, CA) paced the Highlanders with 14 kills and 17 digs, while Kelly Fink added 10 kills and 17 digs of her own. Kelly Simpson (Modesto, CA) recorded 12 kills on a game-high .429 attack percentage, while Shannon Moyneur (Valley Center, CA) had a game-high 14 blocks, including three solos.
In the first set UC Riverside found themselves winning 18-12 before UCD rallied off five straight points to come within one. Even after the Aggies tied the game at 21 apiece, the Highlanders used three kills and an attack error to close out the set. During the second set, UCR and UCD traded points as evidenced by 14 score ties before another Highlander kill and an Aggie error sealed the match.
UCR finishes their Northern California road trip against Pacific on Saturday, Oct 11 at 7:00 pm.
