Highlanders Volleyball Season Comes To An End With 3-1 Loss At UCSB

UCR Finishes Season 8-23

The UC Riverside Volleyball Team (8-23, 3-13) had one more opportunity to tie the school mark for conference wins in a season Saturday evening by upsetting UC Santa Barbara on the road. Despite winning the first set of the match, 25-16, the Highlanders were unable to pick up the win.

It took everything the Gauchos (11-16, 7-9) had to put the Highlanders away in the third and fourth sets. UCR took its first lead in the third at 5-4 and pushed the advantage to seven at 20-13. The Gauchos rattled off the next five points, but the Highlanders still led by two at 22-20. UC Santa Barbara scored five of the final six points to take the set.

UCSB jumped out to an early lead in the fourth set at 10-4 and still led by three at 16-13. The Highlanders managed to tie the game at 17 and took their first lead of the set at 21-20 on a kill by Kelly Fink, but it was their last lead of the match as the Gauchos took the fourth by a 25-23 score.

Kelly Fink paced UC Riverside with 19 kills on the night, while Brittney Murrey recorded 27 assists.
