Highlanders Improve To 3-1 For First Time In Division I History

The UCR Men's Basketball Team beat Occidental College 62-34 on Tuesday evening and in doing so improved to 3-1 for the first time in the team's Division I History. Brandon Dowdy paced the team with 20 points on 8 of 14 shooting from the field including 4 of 6 from three-point range. The 34 points were the second fewest the Highlanders have allowed in the history of the program.
The Tigers picked up the first bucket of the game, but UCR scored 21 of the next 25 to open up a 19-point lead. That advantage held up at the half as the Highlanders took a 33-14 lead into the locker room. Javon Borum led a balanced UC Riverside scoring attack in the first with seven points followed by Bryson Hampton's six points and five rebounds.
Following the break, the Highlanders expanded their lead to as many 32 on the strength of Dowdy's 16-point second-half scoring effort. UCR held the Tigers to 34.1 percent shooting from the field and forced 24 Occidental turnovers.
Next up for the Highlanders is a trip to the East Coast where they will face Colgate (November 29 at 12:30 pm PT) and Northwestern (December 1 at 6 pm). Both games will be broadcast on tape delay on KPRO 1570 AM at 7 pm and live over the electric interweb at www.gohighlanders.com.
