(Honolulu, CA) – The UC Riverside Men's Basketball Team traveled more than 2,000 miles to play the Hawai'i Rainbows on Tuesday evening, but unfortunately for UCR they left their jump shots on the mainland. Hawai'i limited the Highlanders to a season-low 28.0 percent shooting as the Rainbows took the 56-46 win.
Despite UCR's struggles from the field, they kept the game close by turning in their own stellar defensive effort holding the Rainbows to 15 points below their season average. Hawai'i shot 37.8 percent from the field, took just 37 shots and committed 19 turnovers. The difference in the game came at the free throw line where the Rainbows converted 27 of 33 shots to the Highlanders 17 of 25.
UCR had several players in foul trouble throughout the game as Christian Soto fouled out having played just 19 minutes and Jalonni Diggs picked up four fouls in 13 minutes.
Hawai'i never trailed on the evening and UCR was unable to get any closer than 6 points for the last 17-plus minutes of the game. Kyle Austin led the Highlanders in scoring for the third straight game with 13 points. Aaron Scott added 12 points and five rebounds as the duo accounted for 54 percent of the team's offense.
