Cate Named Big West Player of the Week

The Big West Conference announced today that UC Riverside men's soccer player Robert Cate (Alameda, CA) was named Big West Player of the Week after helping the Highlanders to two straight victories at the UNLV Nike Invitational. Cate had a big hand in both wins for the Highlanders, scoring one goal and netting an assist in their 3-1 win against Oral Roberts. In the second game against Gonzaga, tied at two apiece with under three minutes remaining, Cate headed in the go-ahead goal to claim the victory for UCR. This is Cate's first Player of the Week award and the first for the men's soccer program since 2007 Big West Goalkeeper of the Year Charles Alamo was honored last year. This is also the first Player of the Week award earned by any Highlander for the 2008-2009 season. UC Riverside is back in action this weekend as they face off against IUPUI on Sept. 20 and Western Illinois on Sept. 21 at the Green Bay Nike Soccer Classic in Wisconsin.
