The UC Riverside men's soccer team dropped its season opener to #26 Cal on Friday, August 29 - the first of four straight games against ranked opponents to start the season for the Highlanders.
Cal got on the scoreboard quickly as Pat Marion scored with just 3:33 gone in the first period. Andrew Wiedeman followed with with his first goal of the day less than five minutes later, and he dented the net once again with just 11:38 gone in the game.
It was all the scoring the Golden Bears would need as the Highlanders picked up just one goal in the game off the foot of freshman Cesar Diaz (Corona, CA).
The second half produced just four shots between the teams and no goals as the 3-1 Cal halftime advantage held up the rest of the way.
Things don't get any easier for UCR as they travel to #14 UCLA on Sunday. Kick off is scheduled for 12:30 pm.
