Volleyball Takes 3-1 Win Over DePaul

The UCR Volleyball Team improved to 4-2 on the year with a 3-1 win over DePaul in their first match of the Golden Bear Invitational in Berkeley, CA.

It could have been a sweep for the Highlanders had they closed out the first game, which they led at one point 23-20. UCR left nothing to chance in the second set taking a 2-1 lead and never looking back for the 25-17 win. The third set was more of a battle as DePaul scored the first three points and the Highlanders didn't take their first lead until 13-12 on their way to a three-point win. UCR closed out the fourth set and the match with an 11-4 run.

Kelly Fink (San Dimas, CA) finished with a match-high 22 kills and a .417 attack percentage on the evening, while Brittney Murrey (El Cerrito, CA) added 45 assists.

Defense was key for the Highlanders as well as the team combined for 10 blocks to DePaul's three. Angela Pizzella (San Jose, CA) had a hand in six of the deflections.

Next up for UCR are two Saturday matches at Berkeley against James Madison (12 pm PT) and fifth-ranked California (7 pm).
