Late Goal Gives UNLV 1-0 Men's Soccer Win Over UC Riverside

UC Riverside had two great scoring chances in the second half, but it was the UNLV Rebels who picked up the lone score of the match with 5:15 remaining to take a 1-0 men's soccer win over the Highlanders. It was the final non-conference match of the season for UCR as the Highlanders (1-8-0) return to conference play on October 7 at UC Davis for a 3 pm PT kick off.

The Rebels (5-2-2) outshot the Highlanders 7-5 in the first period as UCR keeper Cody Suppé (pictured) picked up six saves in the half. Neither team was able to find the back of the net, however, and they finished the first 45 minutes of play in a scoreless tie.

Alfonso Ayala had two potential scoring opportunites in the second with one shot finding its way just over the crossbar midway through the period, and another forcing UNLV keeper Roland Swanson into making a great save as he deflected the ball just over the bar with under 10 to play.

UNLV finally broke the tie with 5:15 to go when Stephen Sifuentes drove down the left side of the field on a counter and beat the UCR defense for the final 1-0 margin of victory.
