UCR Men's Soccer Season Ends In 2-0 Loss at Cal State Fullerton
11/7/2009 9:33:20 PM | Men's Soccer
Cal State Fullerton 2, UC Riverside 0
The UC Riverside Men's Soccer season came to an end Saturday evening as the Highlanders fell at Cal State Fullerton, 2-0. Despite the win, the Titans (8-9-2, 4-5-1) fell just shy of a slot in the Big West Conference Tournament as Cal State Northridge's 3-0 win over UC Irvine earned them the four seed.
The Titans Oscar Aguero got the scoring started in the 33rd minute when he collected a cross from Jamall Farquharson and slid it past UCR keeper Cody Suppé for his fourth goal of the year and a 1-0 lead. UCR's Robert Cate almost tied the score with 18 minutes to play on a one-timer that sailed wide of the goal.
The 1-0 Fullerton advantage held up until 10 minutes remained in the contest when Oscar Medina picked up his first goal of the year connecting on a ball to the right post for the final 2-0 margin of victory. Cate had another crack at the goal with just over eight minutes to go as he fished a ball out of traffic in front of the CSF goal, but had his shot smothered by Titans keeper Trevor Whiddon.
The Highlanders finish the season with a 1-16-1 mark including an 0-9-1 record in conference play.
